Nestled between the North Shore Mountains and Pacific Ocean, the picturesque community of West Vancouver is home to just over 40,000 residents and is universally recognized as one of the most desirable residential locations in Canada.

Nowhere are homes more prized than on the upper slopes overlooking the Vancouver skyline, inner harbour, and islands beyond. Since 1931, the Guinness family's British Pacific Properties has played an integral role in the evolution of this community, developing single family luxury housing on 4,700 acres of these prime mountainside lands.

An Enduring Vision

The vision was of a residential community that would have exceptional qualities in keeping with the unprecedented natural appeal. Tone was established immediately with the original subdivision plans prepared by the Olmstead Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts. Visionaries in their own right, these gentlemen are credited with the design of some of the most prestigious residential communities in North America. Allowing the natural terrain to dictate much of the layout of the hillside community was a precedent that applies to this day. Slow and considerate use of the acreage has resulted in less than half of the original landholding being used to provide homesites to date, guaranteeing a land bank for decades to come. The long-term quality of the development is also ensured by British Pacific Properties' control of this large, contiguous property, and by the strict architectural and landscaping criteria enforced by legal convenants.
