British Pacific Properties Limited (BPP) is officially Climate Smart’s newest graduate having successfully completed the program to further reduce their carbon footprint. Climate Smart is a non-profit enterprise dedicated to increasing the conservation habits of small and medium sized businesses by developing policies to address climate change. Since 2007, Climate Smart has trained and qualified over 190 enterprises and British Pacific Properties was a part of this year’s cohort of businesses on the North Shore.
With a financial contribution from the District of West Vancouver, BPP was one of six West Vancouver businesses to participate in this ten-week program to lower green house gas emissions (GHG). Like other participants, BPP learned to calculate the company’s total GHG by looking at every aspect of business operations that uses energy. In order to complete the Climate Smart program BPP produced a reductions strategy to help achieve a lower carbon footprint and GHG emissions in and out of the office. Such internal workplace strategies include monitoring monthly energy use, reducing paper consumption, purchasing paper with higher recycled content, and educating staff about energy conservation. BPP has also committed to worksite sustainability practices such as providing separated waste bins onsite to divide general construction garbage from cardboard and containers for paper and wood to be recycled.
As a homebuilder, BPP has a responsibility to create healthy homes and healthy communities to protect our natural resources and enhance the quality of our life for our homebuyers. BPP will continue to monitor GHG emissions and annually look at strategies to further reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
